DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
by Lisa Ferguson, RMT

Do you have chronic pain or discomfort resulting from exercise or injury? Are you an athlete or does your career involve a lot of heavy lifting? A Deep Tissue Massage from a Ste. Anne’s Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) may be just the thing to give you some relief.

Deep tissue massage involves using Swedish techniques to address tension and pain in the many layers of soft tissue including muscle, tendons and fascia from overuse or injury. The pressure used by your Massage Therapist is customized to your tolerance and needs at that time.

All RMT's in Ontario are trained in Swedish massage, as this is the most common type of massage. Ste. Anne's massages are therapeutic in nature and are performed according to your individual needs. Your RMT will begin by discussing your health history with you in order to customize the treatment to your specific needs. An essential oil of pure plant and flower extracts is then chosen by you to use during the massage. Once you are on the massage table, your therapist will drape the area of your body that is to be treated next, in a professional and discreet manner. Modifications can be made at any time to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment. Your RMT will then massage the areas that you have given consent to treat, with a pressure with which you are comfortable. The Massage Therapist gears the treatment to your preference so your feedback is important. Muscle tension, pain and stress are then reduced by the skilled hands of your therapist.
