Journey to Uganda, Africa: Ted & Jennifer

Thursday, October 17, 2013

In continuation of last year, Ste. Anne's Spa is sending another employee and his wife to Jinja, Uganda this February as part of a GIVE International volunteer trip to Africa.

The group's goal is to distribute family kits (essential supplies) to mothers and grandmothers of needy villages, lend a hand in school and orphanage restorations, participate in breakfast feedings for children and much more. They have also been asked to raise as much money as possible to bring along with them so that they can work in concert with the elders in the community to fund the most needed projects.

Ted and Jennifer share their thoughts on the trip:

"Jennifer and I have been married for 9 years, and we have two small children. I work for Ste. Anne’s Spa as their Maintenance Team Leader, helping Ste. Anne’s to continue to be a World Class Spa by installing, upgrading, repairing and maintaining the facilities on a day-to-day basis.

Both Jennifer and I have been interested in the idea of travelling to impoverished countries to assist with various building, repairing and serving needs, as well as assisting with health-care concerns, for several years now. This opportunity, graciously offered by Ste. Anne’s Spa, is a dream-come-true for us, and while we are nervous about leaving our children for two whole weeks, we are encouraged by the good work to be done in Uganda” - Ted Stacey

“We actually have other friends who have done this kind of work in Ghana, Liberia, the Gambia, and we even have a friend who has been living in Jinja, Uganda now for two years, working with street kids. We feel like we’re the last of our close friends to make a trip like this, so in a way, it’s kind of overdue! - Jennifer Stacey

We hope that you will follow them on their journey as we continue to post in our blog and on our Facebook Page. If you wish to make a donation, click here, 100% of the proceeds will go directly to community projects, with the money being spent in Jinja so that their economy benefits as well. The entire group will also be hosting a lasagna fundraiser this Sunday (October 27) at St. Matthew's Parish in Oakville with lunch seatings from 12:30 - 2:00pm and dinner seatings from 5:00 - 7:00pm.
