Getting active outdoors may make you happier
Feeling down? Suffering from COVID-fatigue? Getting active and exercising in the outdoors may be just what the doctor ordered.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) will affect two to three per cent of Canadians while another 15 per cent will experience a milder form of the disorder, according to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).
Getting outdoors more frequently and increasing your physical activity can help ease those winter blues, all by boosting serotonin production and release – a.k.a. the happy hormone.
It isn’t clear why outdoor activities are good for our mental health, but a walk in the woods can reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
At Ste. Anne’s Spa, mental health is always top of mind. With over 400 acres of land, and an abundance of walking trails – both for beginners and advance hikers – guests are encouraged to take advantage of the outdoor spaces by hiking, and seasonally snowshoeing and biking.
Here are just a few options to get you started:
Blue Trail: 0.9 KM - Take a stroll through our Blue Trail and get a glimpse of our rolling hills and rose garden.
Red Trail: 3.2 km – Explore the more challenging Red Trail that leads to both our angel and poustina.
Black Trail: 2.3 km - Discover the beauty of our Cedar Forest while walking our mid-length Black Trail.
