Turn up the Intensity
Turn up the intensity of your walk and add some weight to your workout.
We’ve added Trail Ruck to our fall lineup of new fitness classes. Rucking is walking or hiking with a weighted backpack, a simple activity to pack in some mental and physical wellness while staying with us. Grab a pack and select the desired weight. Together, we’ll walk our woods and beautiful property.
Rucking turns up the challenge of an ordinary walk that elevates your spa experience by introducing an outdoor wellness fitness that you can easily replicate at home.
Get set for a load of health benefits! Rucking is a terrific low-impact, high-cardio exercise that can promote strength in your legs and glutes as well as boosting your stamina. Increase your well-being overall and your Vitamin D intake by getting active outside.
Rucking is the perfect fitness endeavour to take up at this time of year as the warmth of the summer fades and cooler temperatures set in. As long as you can walk, you can ruck. We’ll help you get started with the fundamentals so you diminish your injury risk.
Rucking began in the military – marching for long distances with a loaded backpack is a fundamental army training activity across the globe. But there is no need to be regimented or march - the cardio, calorie-burning and resistance-training benefits will come naturally with weighted walks at any pace and a good pair of shoes.
Way easier on your knees than running, rucking is a lower impacted exercise that is less strenuous on the joints than running and works on building your postural stability. While safely working your legs and trunk to form a solid foundation for good functional fitness.
Start slow. Don’t overload off the start – research suggests loading your pack with 10% of your body weight. Work up to additional weight over time so you don’t injure yourself. You want to ease your lower body and shoulders into the increased muscular demands. Increase speed and distance slowly to get into a healthy fitness stride. The benefits increase when you add hills to the mix.
We’ve also added Combat Fitness to our array of fall wellness classes. Join us outside and unleash your inner warrior! Warm up with a guided hike to our forest pavilion for a martial arts-themed fitness session combining elements, self-defence, strength, mobility and conditioning. Cool down with a guided hike back to the spa.
Fall in love with a new fitness routine in the great outdoors. Be in the moment and focus on what’s in front of you – enhance your body and mind with a new terrain. Then, move on to a rejuvenating treatment and delicious food. The path to health and wellness is at Ste. Anne’s Spa.
