Sunrise Burger

A comfort-food burger made with our pasture-raised ground beef, layered with aged cheddar, Canadian bacon, a perfectly poached egg and a creamy garlic aioli-style sauce. Rich, satisfying and packed with flavour. This is the kind of burger that feels equally at home for brunch, lunch, or a laid-back summer dinner.
- Four (4) Ste. Anne's Farm all beef patties
- 4 slices aged old cheddar
- 4 eggs
- 4 slices Canadian bacon or smoked ham
- 4 burger buns of choice (brioche, pretzel, or gluten-free all work beautifully)
- Butter or oil for toasting buns
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 garlic clove, finely grated or minced
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- Step 1: Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, garlic, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Refrigerate until ready to use.
- Step 2: Form the Burger Patties
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently shape into patties slightly larger than your buns. Season both sides generously with salt and cracked black pepper.
- Step 3: Cook the Canadian Bacon
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Canadian bacon or smoked ham for 1-2 minutes per side until warmed through and lightly caramelized. Set aside.
- Step 4: Cook the Burgers
Heat a cast iron skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, depending on thickness and preferred doneness. During the last minute of cooking, top each burger with a slice of old cheddar and allow it to melt.
- Step 5: Poach the Eggs
Bring a shallow pot of water to a gentle simmer. Crack each egg into a small bowl and carefully slide into the water. Poach for about 3-4 minutes until the whites are set and yolks remain soft. Remove with a slotted spoon.
- Step 6: Toast the Buns
Lightly butter the buns and toast cut-side down in a skillet or on the grill until golden.
- Step 7: Assemble
Spread the garlic mayo sauce on both sides of the bun. Layer with the cheesy burger patty, Canadian bacon and poached egg. Finish with the top bun and serve immediately.
Best enjoyed with crispy fries, garden greens, or simply on its own with plenty of napkins nearby.
