Awaken Your Glow
Freshening up for the new season isn’t just about decluttering your living spaces, embarking on a new eating plan or buying new clothes. Your skin could use a refresh too for a healthier glow and to eliminate dullness and dryness.
Spring forward by switching up your skincare routine: Winter has a way of stealing your natural radiance so it’s prime time to clear away winter’s flakes and prep our faces for the warmer weather with lighter lotions and the attention it deserves.
A good place to start is exfoliating – regularly sloughing off the buildup of dull, dead skin cells helps keep skin looking and feeling fresh and smooth. Exfoliation is a crucial step in any skincare routine but especially important in the spring, just don’t overdo it or you’ll dry out your skin. Avoid formulations that are harsh or abrasive that can damage the skin or cause irritations.
Be kind to your skin by choosing all-natural skin nourishment, mild exfoliators and moisturizers that nourish naturally with plant-based nutrients, essential oils and non-synthetic ingredients. Our gentle exfoliating peel – Ste. Anne’s Skin Nourishment Gommage – contains a natural source of alpha hydroxy acid that uncovers the skin’s true radiance, bringing a fresh layer of skin to the surface with the added benefit that skincare products will be more readily absorbed and work better.
For some special spring TLC, consider a professional exfoliation experience to deeply renew and restore skin to its healthiest and happiest. Our relaxing Jetpeel Essential is a type of hydra dermabrasion that uses jet streams to stimulate circulation, exfoliate and infuse bioactive nutrients deep into the skin with a touchless wand.
Holistic skincare treatments including regular facials are a wonderful way to keep skin hydrated and rejuvenated, and spirits refreshed too. And skincare routines aren’t just for your face – be kind to all the skin you’re in with a customized body scrub or body polish that begins with a full-body exfoliation and ends with a healing massage.
Along with exfoliation, putting your best face forward this spring also requires setting aside the heavier lotions you used in the winter when skin tends to be more dry and sensitive. When temperatures and humidity increase, reach for a lightweight cleanser, a light moisturizer and a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Increase the SPF to at least 50+ and reapply often.
While seasonal changes affect the skin, dry skin and dehydrated skin can happen any time of the year, and they’re not the same condition. Dry skin is characterized by a lack of natural oils which leads to roughness and flakiness. Dehydrated skin is a condition from insufficient water levels, resulting in tightness, dullness and fine lines.
Hydration is crucial for maintaining healthy skin, and both dry and dehydrated skin can benefit from adequate moisture. For dry skin, focus on moisturization with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin and oils. Help dehydrated skin increase water retention with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and glycerin.
And while you’re in the spring cleaning mode, clean up that makeup drawer too. You don’t want to be wasteful but it’s best to throw out old, outdated makeup and skin products. Most products have a shelf life of one to three years. Bacterial growth in makeup can lead to skin irritations. Basically, anything you apply near the lips or eyes should be tossed out after a year.
